Letter from the Chairman

Well Happy New Year to you all!
Its looks as if we are going to have an extremely busy year in the Expo Group.
Already as you will know from e-news Milinda has an evening organised see below!

<Cleveland Bays will be featured at a Breed display/expo at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie Texas on January 31st, hosted by the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Bureau.  The expo is entitled “An Evening in Texas.”  Remember, they were instrumental in the success of the 2005 Texas AGM.   The GCVB sought out us out based on the rapport created during planning of the Texas AGM.  Lone Star Park is a class 1 race track and was site of the 2005 Breeder’s Cup races.   For more information (especially if you’re in the area and are willing to come and help out ☺), please contact Gabrielle at gaby@ggzoo.net or Milinda at milinda@ezmailbox.net.  If you cannot attend, please at least pray for cooperative weather!!!>

Thats a great start.
We need to to do an International calendar of what is planned so that we can liaise with the societies and keep all informed.
We are working with and for the Societeis ,but we must not lose sight of the fact that we need to promote what we are doing for the bays so that supporters, new entrants all know where we are and what we are doing so that they can come and meet us at the booths, help join the societies/groups and work towards a common aim!
There is much a foot in the Uk at present which will be circulated after the Council meeting on the 19th. There are things on the boil in Oz as well which will be sent round when they gel. In the USA I just need to to hear from those of you that are planning to do booths this time. Donna are we on course for Hoosier Carla are you going to repeat your successful booth of last year!.
It will be good when we have a 'list' so that the international community can see what is where so that those that are planning trips can get them to co-inside with Booths. Liz and Heather are looking to come back over in the autumn and so we need to bear this in mind.
I have been boringly laid low with Bronchitas. the bad weather has got me in the end!
The International Photographic competition will be finalised once I can get my head off the pillow and that will hopefully breath fresh funds towards WEG.
OK we are away so lets get together and see what we can do for the Bays in 2007.

Take care all

History of Cleveland Bay International Expo Committee

The Cleveland Bay International Expo Committee was formed in 2006 at Upperville USA, to promote the Cleveland Bay at Shows, Exhibitions and equestrian Expo's Worldwide.

Upperville itself was a milestone.

It all started with a small group of volunteers. Upperville is one of the main and original showcases for Cleveland Bays in America. A week long show ,it is extremely prestigious for the breed, culminating with the Cleveland Bay classes on the last day.

There had been much activity on the show front in 2006. ,with committed members from all parts of the USA attending expos and manning booths to promote the breed. Mostly one to three day events, they were skilfully managed and were much enjoyed by both the organisers and the public who visited them.

Upperville was another story, a week long show is a huge commitment in terms of time effort and not least expense.

As the volunteers had their sites set on promoting the breed at WEG, it was felt that if Upperville could be achieved, then WEG was possible.

Wendy Gregg Tracie Traver Kate Telford (UK) Barry Brown and Jan Kuksma set to to organise it. Kate generated material from the UK to display on the stand and gained sponsors towards the not inconsiderable cost.Tracie Traver co-ordinated raising the balance of the funds in the USA.

The CBHSNA donated generously, as did many studs and owners. It all came together and as the week went on more members dropped by with brochures, photographs and material. By Cleveland Bay day on the Sunday the stand was impressive and attracted many visitors.

Due to the booth and enthusiasm of exhibitors the classes were very well supported and it was deemed a great success and a milestone for the breed.

As a result so many had shown interest that all were invited to join a working committee, including all those who had contributed to Upperville and those who had run other successful events for CB's earlier in the year. Members were invited from the UK and Australasia, so it has evolved into a true International Committee.

Any on the International Cleveland Bay Scene who are keen to help promote the Cleveland Bay are welcome to join. There is tremendous team spirit in the group and we are really looking forward to 2007, as we have many plans.

We are keen to help wherever Cleveland Bays can be promoted, just let us know and we will help in any way we can.

Here’s you opportunity to share your Cleveland Bay with a worldwide audience!

These categories are being worked on at present to offer the widest opportunity for all to enter from the smallest child to the International competitor. Ideas are welcome as to any other categories that may well appeal that we may have overlooked.
Certificates will be generated for the winners which will be judged by an International panel drawn from the photographic world and the Equestrian Industry.
The purpose is to foster participation, between the widely dispersed CB community, and to generate photographs that can be used to promote the Cleveland Bay world wide at Expos Shows, and indeed anywhere that a CB can be promoted.
Arising out of the brain storming a suggestion arose that we could generate a calendar for International distribution and fund raising from the winners of some of the categories.
Some of the categories that could well form the basis of a calendar are listed below.
Plans for the competition will be finalised over the next few weeks. It will then be posted in e-news, on the e-news site and distributed to the Societies /magazines and to websites that support Cleveland Bays.
The entries for the competition will be ‘received’ on the CB Connections site where folders will be set up so that entrants can just drop their entries in to the relevant folder
The winners will be then posted globally on e-news and forwarded to the Society websites and promoted via the internet and the CB magazines.

Potential categories, for the proposed calendar

1. weanling and yearling in-hand

2. 2 y.o. and older in-hand

3. stallion in-hand

4. mare and foal together in-hand or loose. (I would think newborn pics and such could be used here as well)

5. dressage

6. Hunter

7. Jumper ( I would think this needs to be a higher level jumper to distinguish from hunter)

8. Cross country

9 Driving

10. Trail - pleasure/competitive/endurance

11. at liberty - solo or herd

12. Horses and friends - human, other animals, something warm and fuzzy feel good pic.

The calendar and competition are envisaged  as an annually run competition, if the first year is successful. Its up to you! It will be what you make it!

Details will be finalised and the competition launched in the new year. Watch this site, e-news and the internet/press for full details.
